Electrical Engineering is a professional core engineering discipline that deals with the generation of electricity from different power plants, design of power plants, transmission of the generated power using transmission lines, design of transmission and distribution systems, medium voltage and high voltage transmission of power, distribution of generated power to different industries, commercial customers, domestic consumers and also in agricultural areas. This discipline also deals with designing of different machines for power plants, industry applications, home appliances and many more. This world needs Electrical Engineers and without them we can not move a single step.

Electrical engineering takes place in the public sector from municipal through to national governments, and in the private sector from IT (to handle projects related to electrical engineering and many more) through to international companies.

The department started its journey in 2015 and since then it set up a great intention of creating promising engineers who are competent and committed to the high professional standards in the arena of engineering and technology.

Electrical Engineering is the most demanding Core branch of Engineering embracing of the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity, designing transmission and distribution systems, designing different machineries using both latest software and in practice, designing renewable power plants and its electrical accessories, supplying power using renewable sources and many more.

Started from a day to its end, every second we, the individuals, agricultural sector, IT industries, core industry, commercial places everything, are dependent on supply of electricity. In reality this department deals with application of technology and applying concepts for refining quality of life and the entire society. Electricity is basic need for advancement of a society. This world needs proficient electrical engineers for improvement of technology and for betterment of entire society. So, this society is really looking for promising quality electrical engineers.

Dr. Srimanti Roychoudhury

Associate Professor and Head Of The Department

Dr. Srimanti Roychoudhury was born in 1984, Kolkata, India. She received her Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering from Jalpaiguri Government Engineering College, West Bengal, India in 2006. She did her Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from the Department of Applied Physics, University of Calcutta (known as Rajabazar Science College) in 2010. She obtained her Ph. D. (Tech.) degree from the same institute, i.e., from the Department of Applied Physics, University of Calcutta in 2018.

Her research area in Electrical Engineering includes Control System Engineering, Harmonic Eliminations in Power System, Piecewise Constant Orthogonal Functions and Applications of Orthogonal Functions in Systems and Control. Apart from her publications in different national and international journals and conferences, she has published two research level books with renowned international publishers. The first one is ‘Analysis and Identification of Time-Invariant Systems, Time-Varying Systems, and Multi-Delay Systems using Orthogonal Hybrid Functions: Theory and Algorithm with MATLAB’ published by Springer, Switzerland published in 2016. The second book is titled ‘Control System Analysis and Identification with MATLAB: Block Pulse and Related Orthogonal Functions’, and published by CRC Press, Florida, USA in 2018. She also works as a regular reviewer in Elsevier. She is associated with many professional bodies like IEEE, IEEE-CSS, IE(I), IETE and ISTE.

She is also working as Faculty Advisor of EE Students’ Chapter of The Institution of Engineers (India), and driven by the passion she organizes many student-centric events like Seminars, Webinars, short-term and long-term Workshops, Invited talks from different reputed national level institutes and industries, and many other events.

In the tenure of 2012-14, she worked as Guest Faculty in the Department of Polymer Science and Technology, University of Calcutta, and in 2015-16, she served as Honorary Faculty in the Department of Applied Physics, University of Calcutta. At present she is working as Associate Professor and HOD of Electrical Engineering Department (SOET), in Adamas University, Barasat, Kolkata.
