Department of Civil Engineering has organised a Technical Symposium, named FUEGO-2019, in the AIT seminar hall, AKC campus, Kolkata on September 16, 2019.
The prime objective of the program was to ignite the young minds of our students of the university to take part in the various activities in the different events so that they can enlighten themselves into the world of knowledge and modern techniques of Civil Engineering. The department had planned to organise this event to celebrate the National Engineers’ Day on the birth anniversary of Dr. Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya, who is considered one of the finest engineers of the country.
The program started with the welcome address and event report by Mr. Jayanta Nath Chowdhury. Mr. Ranjit Chawdhry, Director of Placement and Internship of Adamas University, inaugurated the program and given his speech. Dr. T. Senthil Vadivel, HOD, Civil Engineering Department, SOET, has delivered a report on the symposium and motivated the students to participate in curricular and co-curricular activities for their holistic development. The program was felicitated by the eminent dignitaries of the university, Colonel Abhijit Mukherjee (Chief Administrative officer (Student Affairs), AU), Mr. Abhijit Giri (Associate Director, CDC, AU), Dr. Anish Deb (HOD, Electrical Engineering Department).
The program started with ‘Technical Debate’, where two groups of four members in each side performed on the topic of “Is Artificial Intelligence is a boon or bane to the society?”. Mr. Arvind Kumar, student of 3rd year civil engineering was the winner of the debate. Mr. Mainak Ganguly and Mr. Soumyajit Majumdar, students of 3rd year civil engineering were the 1st and 2nd runner up of the debate respectively.
After the successful completion of the debate session, the ‘Paper Presentation’ with separate topics were started. Many students of Civil Engineering actively participated in the event and Mr. Kunal Das, Mr. Sayan Roy and Ms. Puja Das got the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd position in the event of the paper presentation respectively.
Our third event was ‘Smart Surveyor’, which was followed by the previous event and was performed in the field with 22 students in 11 separate groups.
The program was started again after the lunch session with ‘Model Presentations’. There were total Ten models presented in the program. Then there was a ‘Technical Quiz’ session followed by the model presentation. There was a total 8 teams with 3 participants in each group. We had 8 rounds in this event. All the questions and the knowledge shared in this event were technical and purely related to Civil Engineering fields.
The program was declared closed by Dr. T. Senthil Vadivel, HOD, Civil Engineering Department, SOET, with vote of thanks. All the podium holders of different events in this program were awarded with cash prizes and appreciation certificates.
