Capstone Projects

A capstone project is simply a big and highly extensive academic project that shall be undertaken by the students as a final task in their academic degree program. Students can choose one of Capstone Projects namely Autonomous Electric Vehicle, Smart City, Aerial Robotics where they would experience emerging technologies and gain knowledge through these hands-on experimental projects.

Autonomous Electric Vehicle:

  • Autonomous Electric Vehicles (A-EVs) use Artificial Intelligence, Next-generation batteries and Industry 4.0 technologies. The main advantage of this capstone project is to transport passengers more efficiently without the need for drivers or fossil-fuel-driven internal combustion engines (ICEs).
  • The project will be designed to enhance the skills for every departmental student as it includes interfacing between hardware and software.

This project contains a) Modelling and Prototyping, b) Autonomous recharging station detection for urban areas, c) Intelligent conditional monitoring for the efficient use of energy.

Smart City:

  • Smart city has become more than just a buzzword in recent years. In fact, with the increase in Internet of Things (IoT) and connected devices, more cities around the world are becoming smarter than ever before.
  • Essentially, a smart city is the re-development of an area or city using information and communication technologies (ICT) to enhance the performance and quality of urban services such as energy, connectivity, transportation, utilities and others.
  • This project contains a) Smart Pole, b) Waste Management and c) Vehicle Tracking System.

Aerial Robotics:

An Aerial Robot is a system capable of sustained flight with no direct human control and able to perform a specific task. Students will gain an introduction the mechanics of flight and the design of quadrotor flying robots and will be able to develop dynamic models, derive controllers, and synthesize planners for operating in three dimensional environments. Finally, students will gain insights through seeing real world examples of the possible applications and challenges for the rapidly- growing drone industry.

Application of Aerial Robot:

  • Remote sensing such as pipeline spotting, powerline monitoring, volcanic sampling, mapping, meteorology, geology, and agriculture as well as unexploded mine detection.
  • Disaster response such as chemical sensing, flood monitoring, and wildfire management.
  • Surveillance such as law enforcement, traffic monitoring, coastal and maritime patrol, and border patrols.
  • Search and rescue in low-density or hard-to-reach areas.
  • Transportation including small and large cargo transport, and possibly passenger transport.
  • Image acquisition for cinematography and real-time entertainment.
