The final year B.Tech (Civil Engineering) and M.Tech (I Year) students of Adamas University visited a water treatment plant located at New Town, in Kolkata, West Bengal. This is a W.B. HIDCO project, executed by Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), Govt. of West Bengal. According to the requirements unfiltered raw water drawn from Debendrabala Ghat (Hooghly river at Chitpur lock gate) in North 24 Kolkata, conveyed a distance of 12 km through pipeline of diameter 900 mm along Kestopur New Cut Canal and delivered to the treatment plant. Previously the capacity of the treatment plant is 20 MGD. The present capacity of the plant converted to 100 MGD. This treatment plant supply water to the population of entire New Town region.
