DEAN OF THE SCHOOL

Dr. Sujoy Bhattacharya

Dean, School of Engineering and Technology

Dr. Sujoy Bhattacharya holds a B.Tech degree in Instrumentation Engineering and a PhD degree with specialization in Image Processing, both from IIT Kharagpur.

He has a total professional experience of about 26 years, including 16 years as a software consultant in Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and 10 years in education and training. During his tenure in academics, he has served as Professor in CSE/IT department and as an administrator in various institutions like BVRIT Hyderabad, SITS Hyderabad and PSIT Kanpur. He has also worked as a consultant and trainer in two startup firms to train students on technical and life skills to make them job ready.

He is currently engaged as a Director, Consultancy & Outreach, Prof & HOD, CSE and Dean, SoET at Adamas University, Kolkata. In this role, he uses his dual experience from the industry and academia to ensure close collaborations for mutual benefit.

He has about 20 publications to his credit and has delivered 3 sponsored projects. He has also served as the vice-chairman of the Computer Science Society of IEEE, Hyderabad chapter for a period of 2 years.

Dr. Bhattacharya is an avid reader and likes to spend his spare time with books or travelling.

  • Project Proposal: An entrepreneurship development project proposal in the area of Automated Sanitizer Dispenser was submitted to NRDC, DSIR. From the incubation, cell of AU with Dr. Saikat Chaterjee and Mrs. Rupanwita Das Mahapatra as key resource persons.
  • Association with Professional Societies like SAEINDIA, IEI(INDIA), ISIEINDIA, IAENG, IETE etc. to conduct National & International Conference, Project exhibition, Technical Seminar etc.
  • Seed money grant of 4,7 Lakh to faculty under ARISE-2021 to pursue research projects with active involvement of students.
  • Developed online lab modules under the initiative of AU smart labs with 119 experiments.
  • Covid 19 initiative: A team of faculty members & students indigenously developed and commissioned Hands-free Sanitizer Dispenser at different functional units of the University.
  • Published 7 newsletters in 2020 on themes like “Engineering Career and Courses”, “Robotics”, “Computing Plus”, “Infrastructure Plus” etc.
  • Domain Specific Technical Training and IT Skills Training for Core Branches – started from 04, Dec 2020 and continuing on every Wednesday.

  • 5-day workshop titled ‘Applications of 21st Century Technologies in Electrical Engineering’
    The workshop organized by the Department of Electrical Engineering, SOET was focused on recent trends of industry applications in the domain of Electrical Engineering, which was arranged for the students and faculty members of Adamas University as well as for the outside students and academicians. Total six (6) eminent speakers in the workshop came from CESC Limited, University of Calcutta, Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and GE Renewables. Apart from curriculum-based study, the students participated in model-based competitions, different webinars and workshops to enrich their knowledge base.

  • Expert Talk Series on Advancements in Civil Engineering – 26, Feb 2021 – 13, Feb 2021
    The Department of Civil Engineering, School of Engineering & Technology, Adamas University organized an Expert Talk Series in the month of February-March 2021 to inculcate students to enhance their knowledge, skills and attitude. The set forth expert talk series have been bridged the gap between academic curriculum and industry requirements. The introductory lecture was delivered by Mr. Bandipally Sandip, IIT Madras, Geotech Expert, Hyderabad on “Characterization of Lime Treated Soil” on 26.02.2021. He discussed on the strength enhancement of expansive soil by lime treatment. Mr. Shibajee Sutar, NIT Agartala, Structural Expert, Hyderabad deliberated on the behaviour of structures under seismic loading and its design consideration. In the third lecture Mr. Kavin Kumar Chinnaasamy, Research Scholar, NIT Warangal, Telangana expressed his views on Geohazards and its character analysis on 03.03.2021.The fourth and sixth lectures aimed to enrich our students’ personality development and interview skills, Mr. A. Raqib Hussain, Career Consultant & Life Skills Coach, University of Technology and Applied Sciences, Nizwa, Sultanate of Oman and  Mr. Praveenkumar Raja, Director, Placement & Corporate Relations, Jayram Group of Institutions, Tamilnadu shared their experience and enlighten the students on placement process and global career opportunities.The fifth and seventh lectures specifically addressed on construction industry operational requirements, Mr. Pradheep Muthu, Head, Quality Assurance & Quality Control, Western Bainoona Group, Kingdom of Bahrain explicitly shared his experience quality management in construction process in gulf countries on 12, March 2021. Mr. Nishant A. Nair, & Ms. K. Athira, Kerala based Construction Experts, shared their views on reutilization of construction and demolition wastes in concrete and guided students on green and sustainable technology on        13, March 2021. This expert talk series laid the pathway to the students to face the interview and competitive examinations. The talk series was convened by Prof. (Dr.) T. Senthil Vadivel and coordinated by Mr. Tridib Pramanik, Mr. Bidhan Ghosh and Mr. Santanu Haldar of Civil Engineering, SOET, Adamas University.

  • World Water Day Celebration, 22, March 2021
    Webinar on Future of Water Treatment and Waste Water Recycling in India
    The Department of Civil Engineering organized a Webinar on the occasion of World Water Day on 22.03.2021. Mr. Sushil Patra, Director – Operations, Qualicom Solutions Pvt. Ltd., consented to be the chief guest and enlighten the occasion by his wonderful speech on Future of Water Treatment & Waste Water Recycling in India. The webinar was convened by Prof. (Dr.) T. Senthil Vadivel, coordinated by Prof. (Dr.) S. N. Roy and excellently moderated by Mr. Tridib Pramanik. The dynamic Civil Engineering Fraternity enthusiastically participated in this event and gathered knowledge and societal awareness.

  • Expert Talk Series on Recent Trends in Robotics & Automation

  • WEBINAR ON: Stability Analysis of a 2-DOF Helicopter Model
    The IETE Students’ Forum (Adamas University) along with the department of ECE, Adamas University jointly organized a Webinar on Stability Analysis of a 2-DOF Helicopter Model, by Dr. Manasi Das (Former Post-Doctoral Fellow, Jadavpur University) on 22-01-2021. The webinar was scheduled between 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. The webinar was attended by 74 participants for the Webinar. This webinar was dedicated to the mathematical modelling of a 2 degree of freedom (only considering freedom in pitch and yaw direction, no roll motion) helicopter model and its stability analysis using PD and State feedback controller. How dynamic coupling between pitch and yaw motion deteriorates the system performance even when controller is used was demonstrated with the aid of simulation as well as practical demonstrations. Also a comparative study between controllers from PID family and State feedback family was provided. The Webinar received an extensive positive feedback from the audience.

  • Webinar on: Antenna Design for Smartphones “An industry prospective
    The IETE Students’ Forum and the Dept. of ECE jointly conducted a webinar on Antenna Design for Smartphones “An industry prospective” on 11-02-2021 between 5:00 PM to 6:30 PM. The webinar was delivered by Dr. Maruti Tamrakar (Antenna Engineer at Intel Corporation) in the presence of an active audience consisting of students, scientist, faculty members and research scholars from premier institutions like DRDO, ISRO, IIT Kanpur, NIT Goa, MNIT Jaipur, IIT Kharagpur, NIT Durgapur etc. The webinar was initially registered by 109 participants from various reputed institutions of India. Dr. Maruti started the session with a brief introduction of 5G, Millimeter wave technology, and MIMO technology. Later the speaker explained industry requirement of antenna design for smartphones and Laptops specifically.

  • webinar on Current and Near Future Trends in Semiconductor Industry
    The IETE students’s Forum and the Dept. of ECE, Adamas University organized a webinar on Current and Near Future Trends in Semiconductor Industry on 14-03-2021 (Sunday) between 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM. The guest lecturer, Priyanko Mitra, is an Engineering Manager in the Mixed Signal Solutions division of Sankalp Semiconductor, an HCL Technologies company. The webinar was registered by 82 participants from various parts of India. The webinar received a remarkable feedback of 4.98 out of 5. Semiconductors are a major part of the global trillion dollar electronics industry. Integrated Circuits in different forms have invaded almost every aspect of our lives. This talk gives an overview of the Analog & Mixed Signal Semiconductor industry. The webinar covered the basic flow in chip design, and associated challenges. A few key statistics, the current trends as well as drivers for future growth and innovation were discussed.
